OUR COMIC RELIEF FANCY DRESS PARADE!
COMIC RELIEF
Each year our school has a fancy dress competition for Comic Relief. All the children who enter into the competition are asked to pay some money, and then we are able to send a cheque off to Comic Relief. We do a number of activities for charity during a school year, and this is one of them.
Here you can see all the children in the hall. The whole school comes into the hall for this event and it is very crowded, but the event is great fun and very exciting. The children parade round the hall class by class, so that everyone can get a good look at the costumes.
All the children entering the costume must use home made materials, although their parents and friends are allowed to help them create their costumes. Lots of children have really creative, original ideas. In this one, for example, a racing car has been created out of a cardboard box and cleverly painted. The helmet nicely finishes off the design!
The competition is particularly enjoyed by the infant children, and many dress up as pirates, animals, and characters from fairy tales. Here is a winning group of infants who have worked really hard on their costumes. We would hhave liked to have invited their parents to the competition as well, but we simply wouldn't have been able to fit them all into the hall!
Our competition is judged by a group of school governors, who always thoroughly enjoy this event. Here is the competition entry the judges considered to be the best of all... a partly eaten bar of chocolate. This was constructed from a large, flat cardboard box which a staff guitar was originally delivered in! This was a particularly clever entry, as the class had been learning all about Fair Trade products, and chocolate came into this category.
Another Infant group of pirate, princess, prince and... Bob Marley!
