OUR NEW SCHOOL ORCHESTRA

Our new orchestra was formed in January 2008. There are 40 children in the orchestra. They are aged between 7 and 11, and they are chosen from the best players. Miss Gorringe, our Deputy Head, arranges and organises the orchestra sessions.

WE PRACTISE ON THURSDAYS...

The children play on Thursday mornings, before school. Everyone has to concentrate really hard, so this is why we rehearse early in the day. Children are allowed to take their instruments home to practise the tunes we learn. It is important to practise as often as possible to become a good player.

LESSONS DURING THE WEEK...

Throughout the week, children have individual lessons with visiting music specialists. Part of their lesson consists of learning the piece of music they will need to play in the orchestra. Our school doesn't charge for any musical tuition.

PLAYING TOGETHER...

Part of the pleasure of learning a musical instrument is playing with others, and all the children enjoy their sessions with the orchestra. It really needs great concentration to make sure each part of the orchestra sounds as it should!
