WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL

WE MEET THE CHEMBAKOLLI VILLAGERS!

THE ADIVASI PEOPLE

Classes 9 and 10 entered a competition through Action Aid and won a visit to the

Royal Geographical Society!

The reason for the visit was to meet the Adivasi people who come from Chembakolli. Chembakolli is a narrow valley which runs through the Nilgiri Hills. It is on the border of the two Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Kerela.

We have been studying Chembakolli in Geography, so this was an excellent opportunity to meet the local people and ask them questions about their lifesyle, homes, customs and traditions. We were shown slides of the area, which were very interesting.

Then we were given demonstrations of games the children in Chembakolli play, and dances that are performed during their festivals...

Stan, who was the head of the Chembakolli delegation, treated us to a clever display of his magic tricks.

We were absolutely amazed at some of the things he did. It was like real magic!

Then, we listened to some authentic Indian music. There was some dancing, and a taste of tea from Chembakolli. We all had a lovely time. If you visit the Action Aid website you can find out more about these people.
